Why Church You Ask?

Here are some highlighted excerpts from the bulletin:

Dear brothers and sisters:

We all like to get away from the monotonous routines of home life and work. After all, it only makes sense that the long-hot summer days of July and August were meant for playing golf, lounging by the pool or visiting distant relatives. As you travel all those miles, don't forget to include your devotions, your prayer life and your giving to God. Please try to find a church near your vacation area to fulfill your Sunday obligation. We have a link on our Parish Web Page, www.stphilipsb.org, called Traveling Catholics which can assist you with this. Those who do not travel far, please come to church with your children to fulfill your faith obligation. I have to say this because when religious education is over for the year, I see fewer numbers of people in the church.

There can be vacation from your work or education, but no vacation for faith.

The importance of "getting away" for a while is not always about doing all of the super special things that we might do while on a vacation, but it is the returning to home rested and with a fresh outlook on life that is most important. Everything just works out better when your mind is clear and your body is refreshed.

So take a breather, and allow yourself to refresh. But, when you get back, contribute some of your new found energy and enthusiasm to the life and ministry of your church and your community.

God bless you,
Fr. Theesmas

Festival Volunteers

It has been customary in the past to have a party for the festival volunteers as a way to say thank you. It has been decided to combine this party with a Parish Family Picnic that was held on Sunday, September 23, 2007.

We cannot possibly thank you enough for your hard work at the summer festival. We hope you will join us for the picnic. Please watch the bulletin for more information about this event.

On Sunday, April 15, 2007, we experienced a steady deluge of rain thanks to a Nor'Easter.  Well, the church's rectory basement was under four feet of water.   The Saddle Brook Boy Scouts from Pack no. 213 and their leaders came to clear out the damaged goods, furniture and debris from the basement, and they also mopped the floors clean.

A debt of gratitude is owed to these fine individuals listed below:

Scouts

  • Brian Kozlowicz
  • Jim Robinson
  • Scott Hansen
  • Vincent Ferreira
  • Daniel Curtin
  • Michael Piacentini
  • Jimmy Naegely
  • Peter Gawin
  • Michael Donofrio
  • Tony Ambrogio
  • Austin Welner

Adults

  • Pete Gawin
  • Rich Habick
  • Kevin Hansen
  • Ed Ference
  • Scott Lomberk
  • Tom Molnar
  • Michael Duke
  • Lyle Welner

Thank you to Mazen Ali for his help with the clean-up.  This Bergen Catholic student also came to help clean and get rid of all the debris.
